I'm Part of A Set
Fashion is more than just clothes; it’s about expressing who you are without saying a word. Every outfit is a new story waiting to be told.
This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Noni and Allie, who embody this spirit and will inspire you to embrace your individuality from head to toe.
We sat down with Noni and Allie to find out their thoughts on style, creativity, and what inspires them every day.

What does self-expression mean to you, and how do you reflect it through your style?
Allie: Self-expression to me is feeling as if people can see right into your soul through your clothing choices. I have always been told that I have a colourful personality, and I think that my bright and whimsical sense of style reflects this.
Noni: I'd say it's having space to show the authentic and diverse parts of me, whether it's my creativity or humour, and that comes through the way I show up in my outfits. If I'm feeling a particular way one morning, I'll do my best to channel that in what I choose to wear. That can mean wearing a lot of colour, emulating a Pinterest 'fit, putting on my favourite 2-piece suits, or wearing the "wrong" shoes!

How do you navigate staying true to your own style while being influenced by trends?
Allie: If I like the trend, I will try to ascertain what this trend would look like for me, and what it is I really like about the trend, and then that is my way in. I think that styling things in your own personal way is how you can experiment with trends, whilst still staying true to your own style.
Noni: I'm not sure if I'm doing this very well at the moment, I can be a chameleon in my style. I try to limit my impulsive nature here, but I love to explore and try trendy pieces. Bonus points when those newer experimental pieces can work back with the rest of my wardrobe, because it's so easy to get distracted!
What advice would you give to someone struggling to break away from mainstream trends and embrace their own, real style?
Allie: Get on Pinterest, watch media with great fashion like ‘In The Mood for Love’ or ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and put images that you are drawn to on your mood board, and experiment! Also don’t try to make sure everything fits an ‘aesthetic’. Just ask yourself a simple question: is it a fit?
Noni: Being physically comfy is number 1 for me, so if it feels awful on my body, it's not making the cut. "Flattering" is subjective, and trying to find your style through the lens of others is really tiring - and kind of boring. Be inspired, by all means, but you're your own person. Take your time, go to pieces that you personally feel drawn to and the confidence of putting it all together will naturally follow.

How do you think we can evolve to support exploring and expressing their personal style?
Allie: Keep uplifting and supporting women from all backgrounds, their unique senses of style is the way to go.
Noni: Keep asking these questions! One of the best experiences I had growing up with SG is through instagram and how I had the space to make the pieces feel like me, so socials will always be a key driver in this area. Even though trends are cyclical, each generation of SGs are different, so the interpretation of those trends will be unique again! No two people will wear the same piece of clothing the same way, even if they're twinning in the office hehe.
