Artwork Name: Country Heals Me

Tell us about your personal style of artwork and where you get your inspiration from:

My personal style I like to think is raw and natural like nature itself. I love when the artwork’s beauty has evolved on its own from the flow of creating. I get most of my inspiration from Mother Earth and my heart’s connection to her. Our people’s connection to the land is so sacred and I love that I have that opportunity to share that in my art.

Where did the inspiration behind this piece of artwork come from?:

The inspiration came from the moments I’ve had connecting to country and how it makes me feel the most beautiful version of myself. To me that is healing. I have such an awe of Banksias and I’ve wanted to create a piece incorporating them and this was a perfect time to do it plus adding the other elements of country in there too.

Why did you name your artwork Country Heals Me?:

While I was taking notes down and my concept for what my design would be started to build, the words Country Heals Me intuitively came to me. I almost definitely received those words. Along the process of creating it stood out that there is a reason these words are a part of the design and it is a message to be heard. I feel like it also really simply put what I wanted this design to be all about, which is what country does for us.

What was your favourite part about collaborating with Mali, headspace and the other artists on this project?:

I loved having such an authentic, real and caring leading example like Mali to be supporting us. The way that she could relate and understand from her own experiences plus that she cared for us was the best.

Mali and the people at headspace created such a safe space for us to be ourselves and to be comfortable which was really nice and important.

How do you wish to create a better future for yourself and others?:

I wish to create a better future for myself by prioritising my time connecting to country. This would be amazing for others to do as well to create a better future. In my experience, connecting to country can help with a healthy mind and a healthy relationship to one’s self.
