FORMAL DRESS...

Hello lovelies,

Well, I did it! I finally found my perfect formal dress! It's from Alannah Hill and is strapless, black with a lace layer over the top, stops at about the knee and has a pearl kind of cluster at one side of the hip.
Mmmm...well I didn't describe it very well but trust me, it's lovely :)
Anyway, I have a question. What accesories should I wear with it? I heard some rule about strapless where you should wear either earings or a necklace, but never both. Is this true?
And how should I wear my hair? What make-up and what shoes (I was thinking just some plain black pumps).
Also, do any of you remember what you took to formal (makeup wise or perfume) in your clutch/bag?

I wish I had a formal to go to, I had my last one ever last year :(
But yay for finally buying your dress! It sounds very pretty :)
I think wear any jewelery you like, although I heard that rule too, I guess it applies if you have statement earrings or necklace so they don't clash, (does that make any sense? haha its hard to type what I mean) I also hear a lot that it's best to not wear necklaces with strapless dresses, but just some really pretty earrings, but you should always do whatever you think is best and what you feel fabulous in :) And black pumps sounds pretty :) or you could try gold or silver ones to match your jewelery.
I remember I had a little perfume bottle, lipgloss and a small foundation powder in my clutch, I think that got me through the night.

Allanah Hill wheni was last at the chatswood one had these gorgeous black velvet heels, peep toe with a bow on the toes and a thin strap around the ankle they would match perfectly with your dress, they may not have them there anymore thought, they were around 250- 300 dollars. i don't think there are certain "rules" as such just shop around it may look pretty to have a bare chest (no necklace) have your hair up in sone pretty do wateva and then have like massive really gorgeous bling earrings which would make ur neck and dress look gorgeous!!!

I think I agree with georgiastephanie - hair up with statement earrings would look great.
Maybe a slightly messy up-do with romantic wavy bits hanging out?
And I would try to get some earrings with some pearls to tie in with the dress. Pearls and diamantes can look great together in dangly earrings.
I think plain black pumps would look good, but maybe consider something in a champagne colour to lighten it up a bit and again it might tie in with the pearls. Something in black but with a bow or a different fabric like georgiastephanie suggested would also be a bit more interesting.
I remember what I did was just cart my dress around everywhere when you're shopping so you can try it on with the accessories in the store so you know exactly what it will look like and you don't have to try to picture it in your head, cause I'm often wrong when I do that and then you see it in real life and go 'what was I thinking?'!

Hi girls,

I got this absolutely stunning dress anyone will LOVE last summer from sportsgirl, specially made by Rachael Gilbert RRP$300. Unfortunately as many of you know, you can only wear things ONCE. I just know someone else out there will treasure this.. esp when I came across this forum knowning you all are big sportsgirl lovers. Anyway just thought it would be the perfect dress for any girls formal.
