New Job....

I need some serious advice...

I currently work 4 days a week in a law firm as a marketing assistant (I have been there for about 2 and 1/2 years) and I am studying commerce (on holidays now though). Whilst it's good for the resume and all the pay is TERRIBLE and I am beginning to hate my job... it's become extremely boring to me. I know that I should be happy that I have a job. but I just don't think that I want to do it anymore. However here are my problems I really don't want to be in an office, or at least in a similar office environment to what I am now and I don't know what to do. Alongside this my Manager and I get along quite well and it's going to be a really hard thing to even try and quit as it will be taken personally and be expected that I would have spoken to her in the first place.

So any advice or guidence on what I should do??

girl_interrupted: said this on Monday 26 October 2009, 09:15 PM; I hate working in an office too!! Did it when I was young, but realised I couldn't deal with the bitchy women and office politics. So I went into healthcare - you get to work with people, but it is a different dynamic, and if you do something where you are a therapist you get to work one-on-one with your patients and not have to worry about co-workers checking over your shoulder or having to work in 'teams' to accomplish things - you just do it yourself. I'm sure there are lots of other jobs like this, you just don't realise it until you know a bit more about it.

As far as quitting goes, I know it can be hard, but I've always had a pretty watertight excuse like moving overseas, or going back to uni full time, so a boss can't really argue with that! Definitely talk to your boss about it to let them know what you're thinking, they'd probably like to have the opportunity to try and change your mind by offering you more money or whatever, then if you still don't want to stay, they have to realise that's fair enough!
