    Hi,
I am 14 (nearly 15) and I would LOVE to do work experience for some sort of magazine (preferably fashion) and I was wondering if anyone knew how I could go about doing that? I live in Sydney and I have had one job (which I am still currently in) which I am doing very well in, I am also in the top English class so i'm pretty good at writing, etc... I'm positive I won't disappoint. :)

    Please let me know, x

I'm in the same boat. You're lucky that you live in Sydney because most of the more recognised Australian magazines are right at your doorstep :) Unfortunately that is not the case for us Melbournians (I have no idea how to spell that word)
I've been sending out emails to various publications and so have my friends. We just attach our resume and give the dates we are available for work experience along with a short note as to what we hope to gain from the experience. Many magazines have a section on their website where you can enquire about things like this.

    Good luck!

So I just send in a resume to the company? Have you got any offers yet? Is there an age limit and what will you be expected to be able to/ to do?
Thanks so much for your help :)

Yeah, I'd just send in a resume and maybe a cover letter/short email, or even call them and ask about work experience. I haven't got any offers yet, but a friend of mine was called by a designer she applied to...but she missed the call!! So hopefully they will call her back.
I think it depends on how big the magazine is as to how much you will able to do. Some smaller magazines may let you have a more hands on experience but an important part of work experience are the conatcts you make, no matter how small your actual workload is.
I was thinking about the age limit too, but I've been told that a lot of places take younger people.

    xx

Try organising it through your school's work experience program. I did work experience at a magazine during last semester break that was organised by the WEX co-ordinator and got accepted the day I handed in my papers.

I did mine at a music/arts magazine, and they got me to write small pieces for various sections, but near the end of the week, I got the opportunity to conduct an interview with a band and write the article for it as well.

    Good luck!
