So they say Milan, Paris, London & NY are the world's fashion capitals... so who's been, and what did you think of OS style? How does it compare to us Aussies?
I live in London, it is amazing how absolutely everybody here seems to care about fashion and keeping up to date. You hear about and read about fashion in all the press everyday and it is seen as really vitally important, not as a trivial hobby, which is how I often feel at home.
Paris is not as trend-based, more classic stylish chic. Although I did notice that all the 20-somethings were going through the leather jacket trend (though this was a year and a half ago, I think Australia is just going through that now?).
Cannot wait for the day I get to go to NYC! It's at the top of my list. But I'm also really interested to see Milan, because I've just been to Rome and found their fashionability to be a strange one and I'd like to see if Milan is different...
girl_interrupted I am so jealous! I can't wait to travel to London, I've been obsessed with the fashion and culture there since... I don't even remember when. Does anyone else love London Fashion Week as much as I do? :)
Italy is a bit like that. they have their OWN style. It's still very stylish.
Milan is a totally different place - they are all obsessed with designer labels; a little sad really.
But still an amazing place!
recently visited paris, london and italy. I was amazed at how well dressed everyone one was in paris (even children)- they all looked so smart and sophisticated, like they had just stepped out of a vogue magazine, i was in london during fashion week- all the clothing stores had fantastic window displays! nyc - definately next destination :P
I'll be going to San Francisco, Colorado, NYC, Cape Town (South Africa), Qatar, Malaysia and Singapore soon. I can't wait to do a spot of street style stalking while I'm there!
I've been to London & Paris. London was exciting, they were trying new & different things. Paris seemed to be resting on their laurels, I didn't buy one piece of clothing there!
How does it compare to Australia? All the Americans I met on my OS travels were like "wow, Aussie designers are so different and unique"
I was in NYC in November and their style reflects the city. It's such a busy business city and there was so much black. It was really cold when we were there about 6 degrees and rained a littlle so with it being so cold I think that the fashion can be hard to judge everyone was in their big coats and scarfs. And EVERYONE was in boots, I know that it sounds obvious boots in winter, but everyone was wearing them mainly black. I bought a cheap pair to get me through the weather, I wasn't that amazed by them but I have worn them since I have been home and everyone else seems to love them a lot more than me, probably because you see all of the fantastic ones down 5th avenue and they don't compare!!
I found most of the sales assistants to be pretty rude which was unfortunate and turns you off wanting to buy things a lot. But if you are going Soho is the place to shop. It's a lot like melbourne and a bit more chilled out than the central area. Lots of Camel and navy in the stores.
Amazing place to experience, but I actually didn't buy many pieces over there... I much prefer Australian stores, and the online UK stores :)
girl_interrupted - sounds fantastic I have actually just started to look into the possibility of moving over there for a while, do you enjoy it?? Any thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated !!
Thanks
