It's here! Our last designer collaboration for 2011 is with young, bright Sydney label - Miss Unkon! The collection, "Girls Who Love", contains 7 gorgeous summer pieces that stay true to the whimsical and feminine essence of the label, and features an exclusive to Sportsgirl print.

We chatted to the creative brains behind the label, Courtney about the collaboration process and the inspiration behind the label.

Hi Courtney! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi, I’m Courtney and I live in Sydney. I love that I get to create a brand that combines my passions and loves and that makes a difference to others. I love creative expression through art, fashion, photography and storytelling. Miss Unkon begun with the passion to create an environment of a wonderland of dreams, where it allows people to express their passions, dreams and make a difference to their world.

What is the inspiration behind your label? Does it change season to season or is there a constant theme?

The inspiration behind the Miss Unkon collections change for each season, as each collection is like a new body of work and ideas that we want to explore and develop. However there is a constant theme that makes Miss Unkon, which is about creating a story that expresses emotions, youth, coming of age and the imagination.

What is a typical day in your life like?

Each morning starts with hugs with my beautiful kitty Daisy. The rest of the day is spent working on Miss Unkon and the projects we are involved in with the team. It usually involves me designing, managing new projects and setting new visions for the brand.

What have you enjoyed most about your collaboration with Sportsgirl?

The process has been very fulfilling. I have loved that we get to create and work with the team at Sportsgirl and learn from them. They are a delight to work with. I love that we also get to create a collection that creates the fun side of Miss Unkon and makes it available to Miss Unkon girls who already love us and for those that are yet to learn about us.

What is the inspiration behind your Sportsgirl collection?

The collection is called ‘Girls Who Love…’

This is a story about:
girls who love to wander through the Sunday markets, barefoot to buy flowers
girls who love to travel along the ocean road, stopping to paint the light
girls who love to wander through the woods at early dusk watching the faded light
girls who love to sing their dreams and hopes
girls who love to doodle little patterns on the soles of their shoes and in the crooks of their arms
girls who love to have kitties
girls who love to let their hair dry after swimming in the ocean so they can still smell the sea
girls who love...

What does the future hold for Miss Unkon?

It’s an exciting journey we’ve gone through and where we are going. Every year we look back and look at how much was created in 12 months. We are looking at further expansion of the brand nationally and internationally. Our vision has always been in creating expression and storytelling so we aim to create more projects that involves the Miss Unkon girls into being able to be part of the brand.

Finally – what is your earliest memory of Sportsgirl?

My earliest memory of Sportsgirl is when I was a young girl, shopping in Sydney, I would see the collaboration projects in the Sydney store. I remember they had a designer that was a vintage style designer and it was placed in this cute little wardrobe and cupboard. I remember thinking that I would like to be doing that one day.
