Guest blogger Susie Bubble wraps up another day at RAFW with her account of Night 4, which included Limedrop, Stolen Girlfriend's Club and the return of Josh Goot.
Night 4 at RAFW
This wasn't the final day of RAFW but with the build up towards the comeback of Josh Goot, there was definitely a frisson of excitement that made the night feel like a culmination of what has been an exciting week at RAFW.
Limedrop put on their first show at RAFW with a cutesy take on the theme of Caribbean calypso continuing our love of fruit-themed prints with a fruit cocktail silk print as well as a white voile cotton printed with pineapples.
The finale to this vision of easy-going summer dressing drew a collective 'Awwwwwww…" from the audience as the model came out with cute kitty cat that showed no fear when confronted with a huge audience…
Kiwi label Stolen Girlfriend's Club put on an ambient show with video projections themed to go with their distinctly more ethereal collection.
A lush botanical print gave Stolen's new collection a softer and slightly more whimsical feeling...
Stolen's rock/hard-edged sensibility crept in with their take on cowboy western leather/satin cut-outs that appeared on an all denim ensemble and on silk shirts and matching shorts…
I was glad to see the guys were styled with my favourite go-to flatform shoe, the brothel creeper!
The biggie of the night was of course the Josh Goot show which was held in an East Sydney car park, reminiscent of the NCP carpark where Goot actually last showed in London Fashion Week.
The stark strip lighting lit up the catwalk where Josh started off with a palette cleansing series of heavy satin dresses sculpted and moulded in a way to signify that the designer had developed a more mature sensibility.
Of course his prints made an impact as expected and here they looked like they were used sparingly and selectively as though he didn't want to take anything away from the exacting voluminous silhouettes.
It was particularly effective when a streak of colour exploded on a background of black or white as though the dress was Josh's canvas…
Josh also showed that he was an expert in colour judgement with his blocked neoprene dresses and slightly waved stripes that were applied to column shift dresses…
The heels were especially eye-catching where a rainbow striped piece of perspex was incorporated into ankle boots…
There was no doubt that the show was an impressive homecoming statement and the celebration of that continued late into the night in the basement with a few too many ginger ales...
