Day 1:
Cruising my bike towards Coachella Music & Arts Festival I really wasn't sure what to expect. Earlier in the day I heard on the news that 200,000 people were making the pilgrimage to the festival, so my initial excitement got a little dose of fear added to it!
Lauryn Hill, Cold War Kids, The Black Keys and Kings of Leon were all on my hit list for day one. Each performance overlaps by about 15 minutes, so it's a mad rush to get from one act to another crossing your fingers you don't miss too much. Cold War Kids and Kings of Leon were incredible, the enormous venue lends itself to rockier acts while Lauryn Hill had everyone dancing. The only hiccup (that we could see anyway) was a tardy Cee Lo Green who had his sound cut off mid-song.
It drops from low-thirties in the day to mid teens at night, and it's a little tricky to dress for both temperatures (short of packing an entirely different outfit) - fur stoles clipped to bags seemed to be the cool girl's solution to this problem. As always, a festival brings out the hippie in everyone, layered mis-matched bangles were teamed with your regulation Coachella wrist band. Denim cut-offs are still a festival go-to, but pretty printed or crochet dresses with roughed up ankle boots were everywhere, adding to the '70s vibe of the festival.
As night descended it was clear that it was time for Coachella to really come alive. Palm trees are illuminated pink, blue and orange, vivid instillations shows begin and the ferris wheel light up the venue. Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons and Erykah Badu are lined up for tomorrow, can't wait!
