My bag has items totalling $

Continuing our support of the bright young things of fashion, this year we’ve teamed up with Frankie magazine to support the LMFF Metamorphosis Student Showcase. We caught up with the amazingly talented finalists as they get set to hit the catwalk.
Watch this space! 24-year-old University of Technology graduate Danielle Van Camp makes beautiful clothes that hit just the right balance between structure and fluidity, and we can't wait to see the whole collection on the runway!
SPORTSGIRL: TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF DANIELLE?
I was born in Auckland, but grew up in the Hunter Valley. I like accents, imperfections, illustration and subconscious thought, most of all though, I love designing.
AND YOUR COLLECTION FOR THE LMFF METAMORPHOSIS STUDENT SHOWCASE?
My collection is called ‘If I Were You’ and could best be described as non-conformist coquette. It’s a meeting of rawness and refinement, of strength and vulnerability that illuminates ideas about identity through surface manipulation and digital print.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I have an unusual, artistic sensibility that juxtaposes beauty in an off-beat kind of way. Surface manipulation and texture are always important elements.
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE SHOWING AT THE LMFF?
It feels like the start of something special. It is a wonderful opportunity to be given.
WHAT OR WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?
My mother always but fine arts and artists too. I really like Anthony Lister at the moment.
WHAT’S YOUR DREAM JOB?
If there’s one thing I would like to do more than anything else, it’s to be head designer of a French couture house, surrounded by incredible resources and history.
WHO IS THE IDEAL PERSON TO WEAR YOUR COLLECTION?
Anyone who relates to the collection would be the ideal woman, it’s the sort of collection that transcends age or national boundaries but really depends on the individuality of the person. I think someone who is self-confident and expressive.
