Bloggers take over Sportsgirl windows!

From front-row shows to glossies, bloggers are h-o-t property – and we're shining the spotlight on a few of our fave blog stars, giving them free reign over the windows in some of our top stores!

Fashion Hayley, Alexandra Spencer from 4th and Bleeker and Kat George from Style Lines are creating one-off installations in Sportsgirl windows, bringing their blogs and favourite inspirations to life.

Fashion Hayley:  Chapel St Sportsgirl from Friday 5th March

Kat George (Style Lines): Chadstone Sportsgirl from Thursday 11th March

Alexandra Spencer (4th and Bleeker): Paddington Sportsgirl from Tuesday 6th April

The first blogger to get her hands on a Sportsgirl window is influential Melbourne fashionista Hayley Hughes; the stylist and all-round fashion genius hit the Sportsgirl radar with her blog, a daily dose of all things uber-cool in the world of style. She’s worked her styling magic for us with a one-off blogger window that takes inspiration from Harajuku girls and Japan. We chatted to Hayley to get the lowdown on her amazing installation, and make sure you check out the pics of her window at Sportsgirl Chapel Street! Check out more of Hayley at www.fashionhayley.com. You can also check out pics and interview with Kat George here.

Sportsgirl: Hi Hayley! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hayley Hughes: I'm a street style photographer, stylist and blogger who lived in Tokyo for a year hanging with the cool kids in Harajuku. Was seriously the most amazing time of my life.

SG: We heart your blog always love checking out your insider insight! Why did you start blogging?

HH: I started blogging in 2006 to document my year living in Tokyo and slowly it progressed into a fashion blog which is what it is today showcasing everything that I love about fashion.

SG: How has having a successful blog helped you in your fashion career?

HH: It has given me a public profile and recognition in the industry that just would not have happened as fast or at all without it. I think of it as both a blessing and a hindrance in that sometimes I'm seen as just a blogger. I want people to know that actually, I work really hard at my styling and street style photography, my blog just documents that process.

SG:What do you love most about styling?

HH: I love the creativity, the mayhem of a shoot and the playfulness of just winging it on the day. Its intensely stressful in the lead up but the shoot is always fun.

SG: We're really excited to see your window display for the Chapel Street Sportsgirl! How did you feel about being asked to put it together?

HH: I was really excited when Sportsgirl asked me to do this. When I was studying styling and VM last year we actually did a project on Sportsgirl's window's and look at me now, I'm actually designing a Sportsgirl window less than a year later. That is just crazytown.

SG: How would you describe your window?

HH: It's a special Hanami party with all my friends in Harajuku. A Hanami party is a sakura cherry blossom viewing party, you sit under a sakura tree on a blue plastic picnic mat - they're all blue for some reason - and drink and eat while looking at the pretty blossoms, it is so fun.

SG: We love all the amazing outfit combos of Harajuku girls! Where did you get your inspiration from?

HH:  The Harajuku girls in the window are actually some of my best friends. The three girls on the left side are known as "Spank girls", they run a chain of stores selling vintage 1980's American clothes that have been customised with barbie heads and other kawaii additions. The girl on the far right is a "Decora" girl, which means over decorating with toys and other accesories. Fashion in Harajuku is very tribal, everyone takes the subtle difference between the styles very seriously.

SG: Can you tell us a bit about the process of making your idea a reality?

HH:  I had an initial meeting with the VM department at Sportsgirl's head office for them to explain to me the brief, which was putting my blog "In the Spotlight". After that meeting I went home and brainstormed. What is my blog known for? What am I known for? What do I love? I knew I had to incorportate Tokyo, street fashion and styling into my window. I wanted the window to be like a window into my world, a scene from my time in Tokyo.

SG: How do you feel about the end result?

HH: It is so weird to see my best friends as life size cut outs - although the cut outs are taller than they are, hee hee! One of the photos is actually from my wedding: I got married in Harajuku while living there with my Aussie BF, now hubby, so that is kinda strange, had no idea that one day my wedding photo would be in a Sportsgirl window! It made me so happy though, to see my idea come to fruition. It looks so kawaii, I'm very proud of it. It really draws your eye in too, because it's such an unusual window for Sportsgirl, there is no product, just these beautiful Harajuku girls. I sent a photo to one of the Spank girls and she was so excited she said it is like Spank taking over the world. She blogged about it  http://blog.dropsnap.jp/tavuchi/2010/03/post-29.html. So you could say I am very very happy with the end result as are the Spank girls!
