Sportsgirl are excited to nurture fashion’s next generation of talent by going back to school to work with the amazing students from RMIT’s School of Fashion and Textiles Merchandising Programme.
For the last six years, we have been proud collaborators of the renowned University’s Young Essentials Project (YEP)– which gives second year students the chance to create two Sportsgirl themed collections under the mentorship of the Sportsgirl team.
Created as a platform for students to gain hands-on experience in the fashion industry and learn from Australia’s experts, the project covers all stages of product development – from initial concept to marketing. Through the whole process Sportsgirl’s experienced and passionate team mentor the students closely, giving them all the tools they need to understand the brand from its history right through to the finished collection.
All the hard work and creativity culminates in an exciting night of awards where students present their final collections and winning teams are announced. A big congrats to the winners fo the 2010 Award of Excellence: the Hunter team (pictured) Amelia Pickering, Jenna Davies, Robyn Baines, Eliza Garby, Alexander Harvey, Amanda Rizk, Aditi Shah & Sophie Wright.

We’re always inspired by the enthusiasm, innovation and emerging talent on display – so much so that students are often given opportunities to intern and work at Sportsgirl HQ after the program has finished, in areas as diverse as buying, planning, marketing and visual merchandising. We jumped at chance to be a part of the creative energy of the ground-breaking program and to nurture and guide tomorrow’s fashion stars – to find out more about YEP, visit the RMIT website
