Sportsgirl fave Sofia Coppola has taken out the prestigious Golden Lion Best Picture prize at the Venice Film Festival!
You may remember our previous post on the upcoming film Somewhere – a critically-acclaimed portrayal of a bad-boy Hollywood type (Stephen Dorff iin comeback mode) who lives in a haze of celebrity fan-worship, booze and girls until his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning) shows up to turn his life upside down. Heartwarming, touching, and super gorgeous to look at - yep, it ticks all the usual Coppola boxes we love so much!
Somewhere was up against the likes of the creepily-awesome Black Swan, but took out the prize with a unanimous decision by the jury. Venice jury president Quentin Tarantino said: “This was a film that enchanted us from our first screening…Yet from that first enchanting screening, it grew and grew and grew in both our hearts, in our analysis, in our minds, and in our affections.”
Aw. Big congrats to Miss Coppola –we can’t wait til the film hits Aussie screens!
