From backstage at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, Sportsgirl friend and amazing stylist Cat Scardino got out her camera to give us a photo diary from behind the scenes at the Ginger & Smart and Bassike shows. Read on for a blow-by-blow account of a day in the life of a RAFW stylist…
RAFW DAY ONE
5am: I need more sleep. There’s no time for that as today I’m styling two shows for fashion week, Ginger & Smart and Bassike. It’s dawned on me how exciting today is going to be.
6am: I arrive at the venue for Ginger & Smart to find empty rails… and no assistants ...I need a coffee… anyone?? Miss Sunstar, Sunny Grace to the rescue!

7:37am: The collection has already arrived and the G & S team and I are checking off last minute adjustments… All going to plan.

8:45am: Miss Darling Hair director and fellow Sportsgirl member, Sophie Roberts getting our future beauty look down pat. All the G & S show team are heavenly. We are all calm and collected.. Bliss…

9:07am: Rehearsals are running 15 minutes late and I get the opportunity to catch up with Romy and cast my eye on her new awesome print version of Style Me Romy…

9:36am: Rehearsals are done and the music and catwalk are giving me shivers…it's now time for models to get into first looks. The press photographers are growing by the minute, the dressers, hair and make up teams start filling the space… It’s happening... we are about to present the first on site show for fashion week.

11:27am: At the festival bar celebrating over croissants and mineral water. The show went really well going by the murmurs… One down, one more to go…
12:24pm: I bump into another Sportsgirl member Adrian Mesko who is shooting for Grazia and Harper’s backstage…

2:22pm I needed a long walk. The light over the view is really breathtaking… I’m getting really excited about my next show…

3:37pm: I have been back on site for an hour now and we have the advantage of the vista from the backstage tent area. Most of the 30 models for Bassike are here, robed and thonged and waiting for a hair or make up chair to become available. Again, the whole team is awesome and blissing out… Great sign…

4:55pm: The 14 metre screen is finally in place and looking incredible… We are about to get into rehearsals and can’t wait to hear the final music back with the film… It's been months in the making.
5:28pm: Rumour has it, we are running late and the crowds outside are eager to get in. I’m asked to get all the models into first look. Lucky for me I have the luxury of one look per model, which means no changes. Again, the media is in a frenzy and everyone seems to be backstage.
5:45pm:I find it hard to maneuver around the room, and chuckle at the dressers in white gloves as there is a lot of beautiful suedes and hand knits to present! I check off all the looks and get goose bumps at how beautiful everyone looks. Pretty good sign as backstage master Rachel calls Bassike's first ever show to begin…

6:20pm: The models run back and the applause sounds louder than usual. I think that’s a good sign and then confirm it when all the editors are rushing backstage to congratulate us… “Awesome show”, Well done.. ”, “Can I borrow the Galah print trench for the week?” What you all doing later tonight?” Going out to celebrate. Fashion week is over. Until tomorrow that is.
