Continuing our support of the bright young things of fashion, this year we’ve teamed up with Frankie magazine to sponsor the LMFF Metamorphosis Student Showcase. We caught up with the amazingly talented finalists as they get set to hit the catwalk.
20-year-old Perthie Daniella ditched the usual tools of the fashion trade for laser cutters and balsa wood to create her standout collection “1:26 inside out” for the LMFF – and has us wowed with her gothic-inspired pieces! Watch this space.
Hi Daniella! Can you tell Sportsgirls a little bit about yourself?
Graduated with Bachelor of Arts (Fashion and Textiles) from Curtin University, received an award for Fashion Technology. Interested in architecture and line drawing – that has strongly influenced my designs.
Congrats on being a successful finalist for the LMFF Metamorphosis Student Showcase! Can you tell us about your collection?
Signature pieces have been developed through an exploration of the use of balsa wood and laser cutting into fabric and wood that make up the collection; exploring the idea of the inside out, and inspired by interior structures of architecture.
What’s the main inspiration behind the collection?
Architecture – interior structures within gothic architecture; floor plans, vaults and large voids.
How would you describe your style?
Distinctive, contrasting layers. What is simple, detailed and delicate.
How do you feel about showing your collection at the LMFF? It’s very exciting to showcase what I’ve designed in Melbourne, to a wider audience along side other designers; it will be an amazing experience!
Where to from here?
To continue creating, being concept driven and inspired.
