Krista's Top 5

We heart all the fashion inspiration on the web – and a whole load of it can be found on independent fashion mag Mylookbook. We recently caught up with the beauty and brains behind the ‘online glossy’, Krista Eppelstun, to talk all thing Mylookbook and asked her to pick her top 5 pieces from the Sportsgirl summer collections.

Krista's Top 5 pieces from the Sportsgirl summer collections:

1. Tiger Maxi - Maxi dresses are my absolute summer staple item (I also love the bolero styled with this!)

2. T-shirt Dress – I always stock up on basics like this as they are so versatile and can be so easily transformed into different looks with the right accessories.

3. Lace Tee – I’m really loving anything feminine and romantic looking at the moment – this t-shirt is perfect!

4. Fabric Hobo Bag – I love a bag that I can wear comfortable either on the shoulder or across my body, these bags are big enough to fit everything in, look great and affordable enough to buy a few in different patterns!

5. Lucky Sunglasses – I am always collecting different sunnies from Sportsgirl as there are so many different styles and completely affordable!

Hey Krista! So tell us, why did you initially start Mylookbook?

I have always collected hundreds of different images on my computer of celebrities and clothing from online fashion stores and campaign images from fashion designers. Whenever I felt I needed outfit inspiration I would sit and look through all my archived pictures. I’m also a complete magazine addict and would purchase so many each month it was starting to get out of control. One day I thought it would be cool to be able to create something that would combine the enjoyment of flicking through a magazine but with the convenience of being on your computer at work or home, with up to date outfit inspiration that anyone could access any time. I put my plan into action in 2007 and Mylookbook was born!

What’s involved in putting Mylookbook together?

It’s become a full time job which starts each month by looking at the latest celebrity photos to see what they are wearing. I also flick through websites that showcase street style from around the world to see what normal people are wearing. I then gather ideas for themes which I’m loving at that time and base the themes of the magazine around that each month. I then look at what my favourite online stores and designers will have available at exactly the time that the new magazine will be online and feature my favourite pieces. That way if someone likes what they see in the magazine they can go out and purchase one for themselves right away!

How would you describe your own style?

My style has definitely evolved over the years but I think it’s only in the past 3 years that I’ve become really comfortable with how I look and knowing which styles suit me. When I was younger I certainly had some disasters from trying to follow trends which really didn’t suit me. I guess I would describe my style as quite feminine and little bit eclectic with a touch of boho. I still like to experiment with current trends but I know what styles suit me now. A typical day outfit for me in summer would be a maxi dress, either earrings or a long pendant (I don’t usually wear both) and some statement sandals. I am loving the variety of jackets and boleros coming through for winter 2010 so will be stocking up to wear with jeans and ankle boots. I also wear leggings a lot in winter with long smock style tops.

For bloggers wanting to start up their own sites, what advice would you give?

Find something that you are passionate about as then it becomes easy to write and research what your blogging about. It’s harder work that what people expect so if you want to eventually make a career out of a business online don’t expect that it’s an easier alternative. It’s definitely amazing to be able to work full time on something you enjoy so much but it’s still extremely hard work if you want it to be successful as a business venture.

How would you describe Sportsgirl?

I have been a Sportsgirl fan my entire life. I can pretty much be assured that any time I enter a Sportsgirl store I will find exactly what I’m looking for at the time. Everything is not only up to the minute (trend wise) it’s affordable too which means you can looking great without spending a fortune. I am always stocked up with all the basics each season as well as I love the fits and quality.

As someone up to the minute in the latest trends, what are the “must have” items for Summer 2010?

The maxi dress for sure as it can be worn casually during the day and then dressed up at night, a pair of statement sandals as you can totally transform a basic outfit into something effortlessly edgy looking, and of course plenty of gorgeous earrings, necklaces and bangles to accessorise with...
