Sia recently delighted audiences around Australia on her national tour - Sportsgirl caught the show the electric show with Megan Washington at Melbourne's Palace.
Megan Washington, you are totes cute. Girl obstructing my view with your jeggings-as-pants fiasco, not so much. Seriously though, Megs warms the heart of every single soul packed into the Palace tonight. Her set consists of infectiously unpretentious pop songs, to which she bip-bop spazzes out all over the stage. So effing delightful. For a relative newbie on the scene, she performs like an old pro - and that voice... Strong and vulnerable. Just intoxicating.
Speaking of, much of the same can be said of Sia, who, despite her short tenure on the sing-song stage, belts out those tunes with a delivery that is both unique and soulful. It's great to see the strong voice back in pop after our recent flirtation with the breathless, female-dominated vocals of 'twee'. Through her quirky visual performance and sharp wit (stuffing a teddy bear down her pants, for example) - not to mention her truly LOVELY stage presence and faultless voice - Sia proves why she's deserving of a totally adulating audience. Between songs banter shimmers like the styling’s of a stand-up comedian, sending waves of laughter across the tiers of multi-level venue.
Her band, decked out in all white, allow her to indulge in her tangents, while keeping the set tight and timely. Each song performed tonight differs – is Sia a seductive chanteuse, quirky pop princess or classic disco diva? Tonight she’s all of these things, plus more. And more than that, she’s totally worth every ounce of hype heaped upon her.
