Globe-trotting Sportsgirl photographer, adventurer and all-round rad chick Fiona Jane gives us the lowdown on New York Fashion Week.

Having worked for the company since the age of 19, Fiona Jane is a Sportsgirl through and through. With a creative arts degree under her belt and six months experience at a Melbourne photography studio, the 22-year-old has packed up her camera and headed off around the globe to find out what people are watching, reading, listening to and, most importantly, what they are wearing. Travelling through North and South America and taking photos wherever she goes, Fiona Jane will be sharing with you bits and pieces from far off places. She recently visited NY during the craziness of Fashion Week, snapping stylish locals along the way.

"New York, New York… It’s the city that doesn’t sleep. And twice a year, when Fashion Week rolls around, not only is it the city that doesn’t sleep, it becomes the city that parties all night.
There are a number of warning signs that the fashion pack are in town. The average girl on the street stands two heads taller than everyone else. Every second arm has an it bag hanging from the elbow and sitting at the table next to you at your Soho dinner is Agyness or Marc.
It all kicked off on Thursday with Fashion’s Night Out, an event organized by Ms. Wintour herself. With over 200 retail stores participating, it was a night of champagne sipping, canape tasting and shopping in style.
Every celebrity and designer in town seemed to make an appearance somewhere across Manhattan. From Charlize Theron at Dior, to Raquel Zimmerman at Calvin Klein or Blake Lively at Macy’s. Barney’s on Madison attracted the biggest crowd, with something happening on every floor. Though the champagne ran out early the crowds hung around for the entertainment. Whether it be free haircuts in the men’s department or the Olsen twins discussing their label The Row, there was something for everyone. Also in store were the girls of Rodarte, Anna Wintour and Alexander Wang belting out a tune on an inflatable guitar with Tash Poly and Hanne Gaby on backup. Judging by the hoards of people covering the sidewalks of every shopping strip in Manhattan, the night, which raised money for the September 11 Memorial and Museum, was a huge success.

The following day the official Fashion Week schedule was in full swing at the exclusive Bryant Park tent. Crowds formed in the rain outside the tent, snapping cameras in faces and trying to catch a glimpse of the action. The bigger the name, the bigger the crowd. If you missed out on an invitation, like the majority of Manhattan, then Times Square was the place to be. An enormous screen in the middle of the square, broadcasting live from the tent, left viewers feeling as though they were still part of the action.
With too many runways to count and an after party for each, it’s easy to see why not much sleeping goes on during fashion week. The party of the week goes to über-hip Alexander Wang, who converted a Mobil gas station in Chelsea into the hottest spot to be seen on a Saturday night…no smoking allowed.
By the final night exhaustion has hit and there’s a sense of relief that the craziness is coming to an end. There’s a couple of names lingering on lips, one in particular, Isaac Mizrahi, whose show was the most talked about of the week. Also creating a buzz was Rodarte, with whispers flying around that LVMH are wanting a slice of their success. The following day when the crowds had dispersed the tent came down and the city seemed to take a nap…the closest it comes to sleeping…and the fashion pack packed up their stilettos and jetted off to London to take part in the whirlwind all over again."
