Position: Accessories Buyer Age: 27 • What does your job involve? • Everything! Getting creative, looking at numbers, travelling, paperwork. • What did you study? • I have a Bachelor in Commerce and Information Systems from Melbourne Uni - I was meant to be an accountant! |
|
• How did you get into this role? • The fashion business is in my blood. My dad and grandad were in the business so I grew up in the warehouse surrounded by men's shirts. But my parents encouraged me to get 'a real job' so I studied to be an accountant and had a great job lined up at a major accounting firm. But when it came down to signing the contract I just couldn't! I had previously done some work experience at Sportsgirl so I called in and it was my lucky day - there was a job available as an admin assistant to the buying and planning department. I have since been here for 5 years and progressed from that role- into a trainee buying role, assistant buyer, new concepts buyer and now I'm here! • What do you love most about what you do? • The adrenaline rush! Fashion is fast and the business needs to move quickly, meaning everything we do is on a timeline. • What has been the most memorable moment of your job so far? • Starting up the ‘New Concepts’ program and working with some of the most creative talent in Australia like Romance Was Born, TV and Cohen et Sabine. • What advice would you give to people wanting a role like yours? • You have to really want it and understand that you need to work your way up. • The most rewarding part of your job? • A best seller! • What are the upcoming looks for accessories that you’re excited about? • It’s all about statement jewellery; there's no subtlety here; amazing neckpieces, big earrings and lots of bangles! |
