Editor's Pick: The Bandage Dress

Celebration and accentuation of the female form is back with a vengance with the return of ‘The Bandage Dress’.

Gaining popularity in the late 1980s thanks to French designer Herve Leger the curve-hugging look left supermodels and celebrities alike in a tizz.

Originally inspired by ancient mummification practices, the lycra and lurex designs have been reincarnated and are being found on fashion runways everywhere. Far from creating unpleasant tight bulges, the Bandage dress holds in the areas that need to be tamed, and accentuates those which deserve some feminine merit.

Christopher Kane added it to his recent collections and celebrities Blake Lively and Chloe Sevigny have added it to their repertoire. Wear it in AM with florals to soften the look or in the PM with a sleek boyfriend jacket, heels and statement earrings.

For a vintage taste of the Bandage dress in all its glory simply cue Robert Palmers’ Simply Irrestible

Oh, I was hoping for actual discussion. Never mind, I shall say my piece anyway. What is the difference between Body Con dresses and Bandage dresses? And does anyone know what Con stands for. I get the feeling that Bandage is just one where the fabric is thicker and more sturdy and holds you in.

"Con" is short for "conscious".... as in "Body-Conscious."

Oh, and Bandage dresses have, literally, a bandage look to them, like someone has mummy-wrapped a stretch of fabric around your body horizontally... Body Con pieces are just one piece of fabric cut to fit.

I agree, you can't really see it, but a friend of mine just bought one the other day and they look so fantastic!! LBD's go with everything! It's such an investment.

What a better way to flaunt your feminine figure than with a bandage dress! Love it like a kid loves candy :)

The bandage dress is another thing in my wardrobe that seems to be multiplying. The funnest thing is that you can combine this trend with the 90’s trend. There are some great bandage dresses with floral prints out there.

The bandage dress is a tricky one. Sometimes if you don't choose accessories and shoes right it can look really tarty! I think the best look for this dress is to have what I call "The Relaxed-Glam Look" Too much heavy makeup and hair that looks over worked just makes you look like a hooker! A Bandage dress done well looks great.

I love that curviness is being accentuated and embraced. I've always wanted to be a model but wasn't waifish enough. I have a more curvy feminine figure so bandage dresses are great news for me:) loves it!!!!
