The 90s are the decade for fashion inspiration.

From the grunge resurgence (checked shirts and docs, anyone?) to androgyny (who hasn’t raided their bf’s closet - or floor - for oversized jeans and jackets?) but here at Sportsgirl we’re getting all nostalgic for the prime time fashions of the Beverly Hills 90210 set.

We’re talking the original cast here. 1990-94: the golden years. None of that post-Shannen Doherty business. The early 90s drama was overloaded with the edgy cuts, bold accents, and ultra-girlie florals that are on-the-money for the current 90s look.

Today’s swag of 90s-inspired fashions make it too easy to reinterpret looks from the halls of West Beverly High: think light-wash denim, cropped leather jackets, demi-cups, lace bandage dresses, off the shoulder knits and slouchy tees, teamed with borrowed-from-Brendan-and-Dylan shirts and jackets.

For those of us who grew up in the 90s, it’s our first taste of nostalgic fashion that we can actually remember living through the first time. So put some Salt-N-Pepa on your iTunes, load up an old ep’ on DVD of the original series and look to Brenda, Kelly, Donna, Andrea and co for some fashion inspiration.

Kelly: Forget the nose job and holier than thou attitude, but steal her blunt fringe and look by teaming a tube skirt with oversize chambray shirt, floral bustier and knotted necklace.

Brenda: You’ll feel like an instant Brenda Walsh in some bleached boyfriend jeans rolled at the ankles, a lace bodysuit and suede black boots. Outfit may or may not induce moodiness and attraction to loner rebels.

Donna: Seriously, who was she kidding? She may have acted doe-eyed and innocent but her fashion sense was smokin’: tight body con dresses and mini skirts a la Herve Leger, cutouts, lace and off-the-shoulder tees.

Andrea: Items of interest include stack of textbooks, geek glasses, floral shirts, waistcoats and political awareness. Plus she made out with Brandon.

Um why do people bring back fashion like the 80's and 90's can yous ever stop copying old time fashions for cool people and start making this 2000's fashion ? yes we look back and see the 80's and 90's fashion what will people look back and the 2009's fashion they will look back and see oh yeh thats right 2009 they copied 80's ad 90s fashion so there was no 2009 fashion ha!

fashion is all about reinvention...bringing back style from the 80s and 90s doesn't mean there was no fashion in 2009. It means fashionistas of 2009 are confident and balsy enough to bring back a fashion era that failed more then it succeeded and make it better...They have brought the beautiful signature pieces back like over sized jewelery, sequins, leggings and of course the boyfriend style. I love previous generations style...from the 20s flapper style to the acid wash jeans of the 90s. I say bring it all back...

the 90's are definately back!!! although some things were faux pas and shouldn't return... love some of the recent SG releases def loving the off the sholder tees and leos!!! plus high waisted shorts!!!! x.

I agree with tenile. High waist is great taste. And I love the androgyny thing too, though I don't have a bf, so I steal my brothers stuff, and to his displeasure its doubled my wardrobe. The only issue I have with the 90s fashion is velvet, it looks awesome but it gets fluff stuck in it a lot. I've also noticed that guys hair has been becoming more 90s lately, I don't like this. How does everyone else feel about it?

Lol totes agree about nick carter's hair. Curtains are never a good look. Oh and I really appreciate that sportsgirl has put out all those cheep sneakers! I had some from big w or something and they wore out in a couple of months! Can't wait to get some new grey ones from sg.

Im loving all the re-vamped fashion, it reminds me of stuff my mum would've worn we she was younger. I remember looking at her old photo's when i was a little kid and stating i would never wear my hair like that, or where denim jackets, or jeans/shorts up on my waist... but here i am, and I LOVE IT! haha But i do draw the line somewhere ---> u will never see me in high cut (over the hips) togs or underwear.

I personally love the fact that I am too young to have worn any of these trends the first time around. i think it's a nice kind of irony because it was only a decade ago. Although I did rock some pretty cool patterned leggings in my day which are making a comeback. That said I am SO EXCITED for this trend. I have been shopping like a crazy girl (and sewing) getting as many floral and tie dyed pieces in my wardrobe in my anticipation for spring as humanly possible. I’m still looking for the perfect light jacket to go over them but I believe that the incredibly intelligent designers at sportsgirl will come through for me :D

I don't know whether to be proud or slightly embarressed about it, but that is totally me hahaha. I love to just vege out or hit the streets and I always seem to end up appearing like a tomboy in the eyes of some or even in something girlie and something non girlie i.e. a ruffle dress with converse shoes. I love it because I am more of a Mix person than a Match person. Go the 90s! Yeaaa! =]
