Trend Alert: Fringing Goes Bang

Get in touch with your inner Pocahontas and add some tribal adornment in the form of a healthy fringe across your new season scarves, vests, jackets and bags.

Although we don’t recommend wearing all 4 at the same times unless you want to look like a character from Where the Wild Things Are.

Mix sleek bodycon pieces with fringed vests or scarves to add embellishment and detail. For a look that could’ve walked off the catwalks for anyone from Jil Sander, Hermes or local favourite Kym Ellery

If the Where the Wild Things Are reference above left you scratching your head we strongly recommend checking out the trailer for the Spike Jonze directed film adapted from the Maurice Sendack children’s book. Why? Because it’ll probably be the movie of the year and because fringing inspiration can come from anywhere!

I don't like the fringing trend, it feel to hippyish for me. Also, does it tangle all the time? I imagine it does.

Fringing needs to be worn with the right attitude...... love it. And yes it does tangle but all adds to the "don't really care" look.

i agree with you, but what do you think about wavy/slightly frizzy hair?? i just think it would look ridiculous and so would have to be straightened all the time...i need an opinion because id love to have a fringe but not sure that it would work! thanks

I have a question: is fringing for a specific age-group? I visited my mum the other day and she proudly showed me these pocahontas-esque booties she'd bought and I didn't know what to say! hahaha - all in the attitude?

yep, I think fringing should be confined to Pocahontas' actual age bracket...surely in the 15-25 ballpark? Does anyone remember when those suede belts with all the fringes were in a couple of years ago? I thought they were sooo cool :D These days fringing freaks me out unless you are going to a dress-up party. Exceptions: small doses of fringing, ie a bag.

i agree im not a huge fan of fringing but in small doses i can handle it....but yes it should be kept to a certain age group and definatley needs a certain outfit to go with....too much fringing can be scary :S

There are some cute accessories with fringing on them but I totally agree that it should be kept to a minimal. Otherwise you're risking looking like you grew up with Orangutans!

I’m sorry but I’ve never been able to get over the western element to fringing, I have some kind of ugg shoes with fringing that I love, but I could never pull it off on clothes. Congratulations to those bold enough to wear it though.

I like it, but only up to age 25, and only in spring and autumn. I don't think fringing looks good with long sleeves and an overcoat thrown over the top!
