Bloggers are the fashion industry’s new muses.
Everywhere you look these impeccably styled young women are forging careers in journalism, modeling, styling and yes, even designing. The evidence is overwhelming - Susie Bubble writes for Dazed and Confused, Fashion Toast’s Rumi models for RVCA, Bryan Boy even had a Marc Jacobs bag named after him.
So how do you go from blogging zero to fashion hero? We spoke to Texan teenager Jane Aldridge the 17 year old behind one of our fave blogs Sea of Shoes to find out how to make your voice and passion for fashion heard.
•Sportsgirl: Jane, can you tell why you started blogging?
•Jane: Well as you know I live kind of out in the middle of nowhere, there's not a lot in the way of fashion out here, I live like 45 minutes outside of Dallas. I've always gone to a really small school and I always felt really alone with my fashion and I kind of just started the blog in way to reach out and kind of join the fashion community.
•SG: Can you mention some of the ways it's changed your life?
•J: Yeah like you know a lot of the big bloggers like Karla's Closet, Fashion Toast and Childhood Flames. We all kind of started our blogs around the same time and we've all got so many amazing opportunities. It's just been really crazy how people have started offering bloggers all of these design opportunities, modeling opportunities and things like that.

•SG: Have you got any tips for anyone who might be about to start a blog or have just gotten started.
•J: Everyone's got a fashion blog, which is great because it's an awesome way to reach out to people but a lot of them I've noticed have the same content. I think it's important to individualise your blog and have lots and lots of visual content not just words because when people look at the internet they don't want to read a lot of stuff they want to look at pictures [laughs]. Definitely the visual heavy blogs do a lot better, I mean just look at Jak & Jil there's hardly any words there it's just all fabulous shots. There are even some big blogs now like Knight Cat and all she does is post pictures of things she's inspired by and she's got so huge 'cause of it. And she doesn't even have to post daily outfits, which can be time consuming to take your picture every day. So I'd definitely suggest to blogs starting out to be heavy on the visual content and establish a unique standpoint on fashion.
